2023 was a year of incredible highs—with women breaking records at sporting events and the box office—and massive lows from the multiple anti-rights movements in our country and the immense violence and persecution displayed abroad. Never has there been a more important time for us to listen to one another—and The Meteor was honored to have leaders from all walks of life discuss the way to a better world.
On November 11, 2023, the Meteor hosted Meet the Moment at the Brooklyn Museum. We heard from a wide array of artists, activists, poets, scholars, and writers, including comedian and advocate Ilana Glazer, actor Amanda Seyfried, marine biologist Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson, influencer and Tennessee House of Representatives candidate Allie Phillips, artist Tatyana Fazlalizedeh, author Jamia Wilson, art historian and author Katy Hessel, business leader and activist Suzanne Lerner, Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins, president of Emerge A’Shanti F. Gholar, activist Deja Foxx, among others.

Generator Collective is a 501(c)4 founded in 2016 to get people together to talk about government and politics at the level Homer Simpson could understand. The system is made purposely confusing, so we create content that breaks down the BS and lowers the barrier of entry to engage with our government. We meet our audience where they’re at, delivering our content online and being straight up about the state of our democracy and how showing up to vote can help protect it.

Vote Mama exists to politically empower moms—because electing moms means passing policies that support women, kids, workers, and caretakers. As the only organization harnessing moms’ political power from the outside and the inside, they elect moms and lobby on their behalf. Vote Mama is led by founder Liuba Grechen Shirley, former Congressional candidate and first woman in history to successfully petition the FEC to use Campaign Funds for Childcare.
