About The Meteor 

The Meteor is a new media company founded by journalists, artists, filmmakers, and media leaders who believe in the power of words, images, and stories to advance gender and racial justice. The Meteor’s storytelling happens across platforms–from audio, live events, and virtual workshops to social content series on Instagram and beyond.

Overview

We are looking for a skilled and mission-driven Social Media Editor. This person will manage and contribute towards The Meteor’s growing social media presence, and ideate on strategies in partnership with the Director of Audience Development.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Director of Audience Development and the editorial team to ensure high-quality journalism and on-brand voice in social content.
  • Collaborate with other leads on the team to support overall content strategy and growth across all verticals.
  • Create a social editorial calendar, including ideating on current news, forthcoming noteworthy dates commensurate with our mission and potential collaborations with our collective and new channels.
  • Maintain social channels for The Meteor across our primary platforms: Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and LinkedIn. This includes producing and executing content with help from internal and external contributors, and promotion of our events, podcasts, and newsletters.
  • Interact with our audience on our social platforms, from responding to and moderating comments to hosting IG Lives or Twitter Spaces as needed.
  • Track basic social metrics each week and use them to make data-based recommendations to the Director of Audience Development and the team.
  • Stay familiar with the social media landscape and trends to adjust strategy and identify potential areas of exploration.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years experience creating social media content for a media brand. 
  • A proven ability to partner with editorial and audience leadership to execute and iterate on social media strategy.
  • Experience in making thoughtful news judgment, including knowledge of how to present complex and sensitive subject matters on social media. 
  • Experience writing copy that is voice-driven, effective, and clean.
  • Can work both independently and collaboratively for editorial purposes, and cross-functionally for organizational and project purposes. 
  • Excellent organizational and content creation skills. 
  • A deep interest in and commitment to advancing gender equity and racial justice — including the unique issues faced by individual marginalized communities.Experience editing videos for social media is a major plus. 

Time

This is a full-time role, expected to be 40 hours per week.

Compensation

Compensation for this position is $70,000+.

Location

The Meteor is based in New York, but is currently working remotely on ET hours. We anticipate we will operate as a hybrid company in the future, and encourage all qualified applicants to apply.
